AN AMAZING WEEK-END FOR JUDDMONTE

Friday 3rd October

THREE VALLEYS (2001 colt Diesis ex Skiable by Niniski) bounced back to top form to take the Middle Park Stakes Gr.1 (6f) at Newmarket from Balmont and Holborn.  Three Valleys hit the front two furlongs out and never looked like being headed.

Three Valleys, already the winner of the Gr.3 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, is out of a half-sister to HASILI herself the dam of DANSILI, BANKS HILL, HEAT HAZE and INTERCONTINENTAL.

Also on the Friday Newmarket card the Juddmonte bred and raced Piano Star was placed third in the Godolphin S, 12f, L. and Self Evident was second in the 2yo EBF Further Flight Classified Stakes with the Juddmonte bred Zonergem, by Zafonic back in third.

In France Rainbow Quest sired the first and third in the Prix Joubert, 12f, L., at Saint-Cloud.  The winner SILVER RAIN (2000 filly ex Riviere d’Argent by Nijinsky) was the 84th individual blacktype winner for Rainbow Quest. Buenos Aires (2000 filly ex Benediction by Day is Done) had already been listed placed in the Prix de la Seine.

Saturday 4th October

At Longchamp, Juddmonte bred and raced the winners of the first two races on the card. WEIGHTLESS and Short Pause were the first two home in the Prix Dollar, 10f, Gr2 and MOON SEARCH (1999 filly by Rainbow Quest ex Eva Luna by Alleged) took the Prix de Royallieu, 12.5f, Gr.2.  MOON SEARCH is half-sister to the 2003 Gr.1 St Leger winner BRIAN BORU.  Later on the same card Clear Thinking (2000 colt by Rainbow Quest ex Coraline by Sadler’s Wells) was third in the Prix Hubert de Chaudenay Gr.2.  Clear Thinking’s dam CORALINE is half-sister to the dams of BEAT HOLLOW and OASIS DREAM.

In America SIGHTSEEK (1999 filly by Distant View ex Viviana by Nureyev) put up another powerful performance to win the Beldame Stakes, 9f, Belmont Park, Gr.1. by 4½ lengths.  This was SIGHTSEEK’s fourth Grade 1 win in a row and she has now booked her ticket for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff Gr.1 at Santa Anita on the 25th October.  (Incidentally, BOWMAN’S BAND out of half-sister to the dam of SIGHTSEEK took the Gr.2 Meadowlands Breeders’ Cup Stakes the day before)

Juddmonte also bred two minor winners in England with Ten Carat taking the last race at Newmarket and Individual Talents winning for Distant View at Epsom.

 Sunday 5th October

Back to Longchamp and ZEE ZEE TOP (1999 filly by ZAFONIC ex Colorspin by High Top) won the Prix de l’Opera, 10f, Gr.1 with Trumbaka (1999 filly In The Wings ex Questina by Rainbow Quest) two heads and a neck back in fourth.

Later on the Longchamp card, another lightly raced Juddmonte two-year-old AMERICAN POST (2001 colt Bering ex Wells Fargo by Sadler’s Wells) won the Grand Criterium, 7f, Gr.1 by four lengths from Charming Prince (who was already a Stakes winner and Gr3 placed).

To round off the week-end in Italy Principe Di Galles (2001 colt by Zafonic ex Siddharta by Chief’s Crown) was third in the Premio Rumon, 8f, Capannelle L., on heavy ground.

ZAMINDAR’s full-brother Zafonic has now sired 7 individual two-year-old winners of 10 races in 2003 including two blacktype performers.
