CHESTER HOUSE
1995-2003
Grade 1 millionaire CHESTER
HOUSE by Mr. Prospector out of Broodmare of the Year
Toussaud, half-brother to 3-time Grade 1 Classic
Winner EMPIRE MAKER, was euthanized at Juddmonte
Farms on Saturday.
CHESTER HOUSE began to show signs of anemia in
May and subsequently developed pneumonia. A diagnostic bone marrow
biopsy was performed which revealed a form of cancer that was
termed 'Myelodysplastic Syndrome'.
A treatment of chemotheraphy was initiated, but CHESTER
HOUSE's condition deteriorated rapidly in the third week
of June and in the end he lost the use of 80% of his lungs. Due to
the extreme stress on the horse at this stage and in the opinion of
experts from Hagyard, Davidson McGee Vet Clinic in consultation
with the University of California at Davis, Ohio State University
and Cornell University that his condition was terminal, it was
decided to put the horse to sleep.
CHESTER HOUSE had covered 123 mares in 2003 and
112 of these had been pronounced in foal. His weanlings were
considered exceptional by experts at last years weanling sales
where they average $115,000. He has 6 yearlings entered for the
upcoming Saratoga Select Yearling Sales.
He will be sorely missed by the staff at
Juddmonte.
