JUDDMONTE AGAIN MAKE THE HEADLINES
RECORD YEAR FOR JUDDMONTE
Juddmonte Farms picked up a third Eclipse Award as the nation's
leading breeder Monday night, following winning years in 1995 and
2001. "We won this award before, and it's gratifying to win it
again", said Dr. John Chandler, who accepted the award on behalf of
Khalid Abdullah.
The operation set a new record by breeding 35
individual stakes winners in 2002, easily surpassing the previous
mark of 27, set by John and Betty Mabee in 1998. In addition to the
Eclipse, Juddmonte was honoured with the British Thoroughbred
Breeders' Association's Breeders' award in 2002.
Juddmonte bred and raced OASIS DREAM (GB)
(Green Desert), the winner of the G1 Middle Park
S. who was the highest rated two-year-old on the International
Classifications at 123. Another juvenile, Brian Boru (GB) (Sadler's
Wells) led home a 1-2-3 sweep for Juddmonte breeding in the
G1 Racing Post Trophy.

The strength of the Juddmonte broodmare band was amply demonstrated
in 2002 as top producer Toussaud (El Gran Senor) produced both
G1 winner CHISELLING (Woodman)
and multiple graded-stakes winner DECARCHY
(Distant View), while the Nureyev mare Viviana was represented by a
pair of multiple graded-stakes winner in SIGHTSEEK
(Distant View) and TATES CREEK (Rahy). Hasili
(Ire) (Kahyasi), whose daughter BANKS HILL(GB)
(Danehill) reigned as the 2001 Eclipse winner as champion turf
female, was also well respresented in 2002: BANKS
HILLwent on to capture the G1 Prix
Jacques le Marois in August, three-year-old filly HEAT
HAZE (GB) (Green Desert) took the Listed Prix Coronation
and two-year-old filly INTERCONTINENTAL (GB)
(Danehill) ran third to colts in the G1 Grand
Criterium.
