(For full evaluation of the pedigree see Andrew Caulfield’s article).

3.05 King’s Stand Stakes Gr2 (5f)

3rd OASIS DREAM - (00 c Green Desert ex Hope by Dancing Brave)

OASIS DREAM, Champion 2yo of 2002, put up an amazing performance, beaten only 2.5 lengths, to take third place in only his first start of 2003.  Bred and raced by Juddmonte, OASIS DREAM is half-brother to 2002 Poule d’Essai des Pouliche Gr.1 winner ZENDA (by Zamindar) and his dam is a full-sister to the dam of BEAT HOLLOW.

3.45 St James’s Palace Stakes Gr1 (8f)

1st ZAFEEN - (00 c Zafonic ex Shy Lady by Kaldoun)

A much deserved Gr.1 victory for ZAFEEN who finished 2nd in the Newmarket 2000 Guineas Gr.1 and in May and the Greenham Stakes Gr.3 in April.  ZAFEEN was also the winner of the Mill Reef Stakes Gr.2 (6f) and 2nd in the Prix Morny Gr.1 (6f) as a 2 year old.

ZAFEEN is a son of ZAFONIC (full brother to ZAMINDAR).

4.20 Queen Anne Stakes Gr1 (8f)

2nd TILLERMAN - (96 h In The Wings ex Autumn Tint by Roberto)

TILLERMAN put up another sterling performance to come from last place to finish second.  Bred and raced by Juddmonte, TILLERMAN has now won 6 races including the Gr2 Celebration Mile and been placed 11 times (5 times in group company).

TILLERMAN continued his love affair with Ascot where he has run 9 times winning once and 6 placing including second in the last two runnings of the Queen Anne Stakes, a third in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in 2002 behind Where Or When and Hawk Wing and a 4th in the Cork And Orrery Stakes in 2001 beaten 3 lengths.

4.55 Duke of Edinburgh S (12f)

2nd RESEARCHED - (99 g Danehill ex Sought Out by Rainbow Quest)

Researched went down by only a neck in this very competitive handicap.  Researched is out of the Gr.1 winning RAINBOW QUEST mare Sought Out.

5.30 Balmoral Handicap (5f)

1st DEPORTIVO - (00 c Night Shift ex Valencia by Kenmare)

DEPORTIVO under top weight showed bags of speed over the minimum trip and was always in charge, winning by 2 lengths.  Bred and raced by Juddmonte, Deportivo won 3 races (5-6f) at 2 years including Rose Bowl Stakes L. at Newbury.

DEPORTIVO's second dam PEACE is one of the Juddmonte foundation mares.

It is also worth noting here that MUCH FASTER (2001 filly out of Interruption by ZAFONIC) won the Prix la Fleche (5.5f), L. at Maisons-Laffitte this afternoon.  Interruption (also a granddaughter of PEACE) was Juddmonte bred and sold for 85,000 gns at the 1999 Tattersalls December Sales.

Wednesday 18th June

2.30 Jersey Stakes Gr3 (7f)

1st MEMBERSHIP – (00 c Belong To Me ex Shamisen by Diesis)

Membership, a decisive 2.5 lengths winner here, has paid a fine tribute to the Juddmonte colt TRADE FAIR (00 c ZAFONIC ex Danefair by Danehill) who beat him at Newmarket last time by a comfortable 2.5 lengths.

TRADE FAIR won over 7 furlongs at 2 years and was 3rd in the Dewhurst Stakes Gr.1.  He was also winter favourite for the 2000 Guineas before a setback put him out of contention.

3.45 Prince of Wales’s Stakes Gr1 (10f)

2nd RAKTI – (99 c. Polish Precedent ex Ragera by RAINBOW QUEST)

RAKTI would have been closer that the 2.5 length margin had he settled better in the early stages and another blacktype success cannot be far away.  RAKTI has already notched up Gr.1 wins in the 2002 Italian Derby and the Premio Presidente della Repubblica over 10f in 2003.

5.30 Chesham Stakes L. (7f) 2yo’s

2nd Tycoon – (01 c. Sadler’s Wells ex Fleeting Glimpse by RAINBOW QUEST)

Tycoon stretched out well on the ground to finish strongly and when upped in trip should soon be seen in the winner’s enclosure.

Bred by Juddmonte Farms out of Fleeting Glimpse who was 2nd in the Prix Saint Alary Gr.1 and dam of May Hill Stakes Gr.3 winner HALF GLANCE.  Fleeting Glimpse is half-sister to the 1000 Guineas Gr.1 winner WINCE.

Thursday 19th June

22.30 Norfolk Stakes Gr3 (5f) 2yos

3rd Nevisian Lad (01 c Royal Applause ex Corndavon by Sheikh Albadou)

Bred by Glebe Stud, Nevisian Lad  lost the race at the start by being slowly into his stride but only went down by 2 lengths at finish.  His dam Corndavon is currently in foal to the Juddmonte stallion OBSERVATORY.

3.05 Ribblesdale Stakes Gr.2 (12f)

1st SPANISH SUN – (00 f. El Prado ex Shining Bright by RAINBOW QUEST)

Bred and raced by Juddmonte Farms,  SPANISH SUN missed the Classics due to a setback but bounced back to take this contest after a 269 day absence from the track.  She belied her inexperience to deny Ocean Silk in a pulsating finish.   SPANISH SUN  and the second, Ocean Silk, may meet again in the Irish Oaks.

Her dam SHINING BRIGHT is a winning half-sister to DARING MISS (4 wins inc Grand Prix de Chantilly Gr.2) and APOGEE (2 wins inc Prix de Royaumont Gr.3; dam of DANCE ROUTINE – winner of the Prix de Royallieu Gr.2 and 2nd Prix de Diane Gr.1).

4.55 Queen’s Vase Gr.3 (16f)

2nd Singleton – (00 f. Singspiel ex Rive by Riverman)

Bred and race by Juddmonte Farms,  Singleton ran a remarkable race having only lost her maiden tag, on only her second career start, some three weeks before Ascot.

Today in America

SIGHTSEEK (99 f DISTANT VIEW ex Viviana by Nureyev) also added to the Juddmonte spoils for the week with a Gr.1 victory in the Ogden Phipps Handicap over 8.5f on dirt at Belmont Park.  This was SIGHTSEEK’s sixth win and her second Gr.1 victory this year.  In fact, SIGHTSEEK has never been out of the first two in her 10 career starts.  SIGHTSEEK is half-sister to the Gr.1 winner TATES CREEK from the family of CHIEF’S CROWN.
