JUDDMONTE STALLIONS IN PACEMAKER
Cream of the stallion crop
RAINBOW QUEST (£30,000) is the most successful active English based
sire in the European Pattern, and with 85 wins at that level, he is
closing in on the all-time leader Mill Reef (92). The evergreen
Millenary has led the way for him again this season with a pair of
Gr.2 Triumphs, while Systematic and Without Connexion have chipped
in with Gr.3 successes.
ZAMINDAR (£7,000) a brother to the late Zafonic, is hard to
judge, having been only lightly represented here to date. What we
do know is that he is capable of getting a high-class runner; Zenda
proved that in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches Gr.1 and the fact
that he covered 101 mares in his first year after he returned from
Florida augurs well for his prospects when that crop appears on the
racecourse in 2006.
Class in depth
BEAT HOLLOW (£9,000) third in the Derby on only his third start, he
was better at shorter distances as shown by his subsequent win in
the Grand Prix de Paris, and three U.S Gr.1 triumphs at nine and
ten furlongs. He is out of Irish Oaks heroine Wemyss Bight and his
granddam, stakeswinner Bahamian, is also the granddam of Oasis
Dream.
DANSILI (£12,500) is a brother to the brilliant Banks Hill, Gr.1
winner Heat Haze, Gr.2 winner Intercontinental and 2004 Group
scorer Cacique. He has 15 first crop two-year-old winners, headed
by Early March, winner of Prix de la Rochette Gr.3 and beaten just
a short neck in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere Gr.1. Out of a mare by
Irish River, Dansili has three crosses of Northern Dancer with
Nijinsky 4 x 3, with four crosses of Natalma. He also has the
stakesplaced Pagnottella who is inbred to Roberto.
OASIS DREAM (£25,000) a sprint star who notched three Gr.1 wins
at two and three. Out of a sister to Wemyss Bight, Oasis Dream has
an intriguing pedigree, as both his sire and broodmare sire are
products of the Northern Dancer/Sir Gaylord cross. Go for
non-Northern Dancer lines which are proven with Green Desert such
as Mr Prospector, Affirmed, Mill Reef, Ahonoora, Blushing Groom and
Vaguely Noble.
OBSERVATORY (£10,000) has his first foals this year and the dual
Gr.1 winner and Champion Miler has a very close relative to Storm
Bird as his granddam. He’s another who looks as if he could work
well over several Northern Dancer strains.
Deportivo to National Stud
Gr.2 winner Deportivo (Night Shift) will stand at The National Stud
in 2005. Deportivo has won six races, including the Flying Five
(Gr.2) at the Curragh in 2003. he is the second foal out of the
Kenmare mare Valencia and is a half-brother to the Listed winner
Irish Vale (Woolfhound). Deportivo will stand for £3,500 in his
first season.
