DANSILI YEARLINGS REALISE A HEALTHY PROFIT

DANSILI FINISHES FAST AND LATE
Nearly 11 hours of trading received a late boost when a half-sister to the speedy Wunders Dream by DANSILI
(Lot 1060) became the day’s third six-figure lot. Consigned by the Hampshire-based Trickledown Stud
on behalf of John and Andrew Ellis, the dark bay filly had plenty going for her, and while there were not many
people left inside the ring at 9.40pm, the crucial ones were still present. Trainer James Given was among them, but he faced tough opposition in the shape of trainer Jamie Osborne who stood near the entrance to the ring with Amanda Skiffington.

When the price reached 95,000gns Osborne turned, spoke to Irish trainer Charles O’Brien who was standing
alongside Paul Shanahan, and the price was upped one final time to 100,000gns. This was another good result for Trickledown, consignors of last week’s sale-topping Danehill. Having pulled one rabbit from the Danehill hat the same outfit repeated the trick with one of his sons, and Trickledown boss Paul Thorman said, “She was a proper filly and there aren’t that many in this sale. I’m just glad they [buyers] stayed as late as they did.”

PINHOOKERS AGAINST THE ROPES
Pinhookers were licking their wounds last night after some disappointing results. Many have made healthy profits in recent years, but the likelihood that speculators spent too much on foals in 2003 was becoming a reality as the session progressed and the negative column, including unsold pinhooks, pulled clear of the one marked ‘profit’. The pick of the good news centred on a DANSILI colt (Lot 932) bought by John Osborne for 30,000gns in this ring in December and sold to John O’Byrne yesterday for 78,000gns. O’Byrne, who relegated Hong Kong interests to the role of underbidder, said, “He’s been bought to go back to Ireland. I like the stallion and I like the pedigree. He’s certain to make a two-year-old.” That is likely to be correct if the Dansili takes after halfsister Dixieanna, who was second at Windsor in August from Barry Hills’ stable on her only run to date. She is out of the winning mare Dixielake (Lake Coniston).
