RAINBOW QUEST - THE CLASSIC INFLUENCE
TUESDAY'S Prix Matchem at Maisons-Laffitte might not have been
the week's major race but it was significant for several
reasons.
One, the winner, Juddmonte-homebred Kocab is one of seven
stakeswinners this year for his sire Unfuwain, and two, he is the
11th stakes winner this year out of a mare by
RAINBOW
QUEST.
Unfuwain's unbeaten daughter Vadawina is arguably the best
three-year-old filly in Europe, a title that might be disputed when
Eswarah goes to post for the Epsom Oaks on Friday.
In May alone, daughters of RAINBOW
QUESThave been responsible for stakeswinners Rakti,
Ozone Bere, Day Flight, Desideratum and Kind while
Footstepsinthesand landed the 2000 Guineas on April 30.
Kocab's dam is a half-sister to Group winners Dance Routine and
Apsis, his granddam Apogee winner of the Prix de Royaumont (Gr 3)
in 1993 and a half-sister to Daring Miss winner of the Grand Prix
de Chantilly (Gr 2).
At 25, RAINBOW
QUEST's influence is as strong as ever through his
fillies. The last two Epsom Derby winners, North Light and Kris
Kin, are both out of his daughters and RAINBOW QUESTis undoubtebly the most
potent classic influence in British stallion ranks since Mill
Reef.
