ITS A FAMILY TRADITION
Four years after talented Banks Hill ran away to a 5 ½ length win in the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf (Gr.1) and an Eclipse Award as three-year-old champion filly, her full sister Intercontinental carried Juddmonte Farms’s silks to a decisive win in this years $972,020 edition of the race on Saturday at Belmont Park.
Intercontinental took command early and held off a late charge from defending Filly and Mare Turf Champion Ouija Board to win the 10 furlong race by 1 ¼ lengths. The victory was most likely the last in Intercontinental’s stellar career in which she won 13 of 22 starts with three second and four third place finishes.
Juddmonte broodmare Hasili became just the second – following Primal Force – to produce a pair of Breeders’ Cup winners and quite probably, made Hasili the most prolific producer of Breeders’ Cup performers following DANSILI's third in the 2000 Gr.1 BC Mile and her daughter Heat Haze ran fourth in the 2003 BC F/M Turf.
Oldest of all Hasili’s progeny – DANSILI has made a very encouraging start to his stallion career. Based at Banstead Manor Stud, Newmarket and standing for £12,500slf in 2005, Dansili ended the year as Europe’s Leading second crop sire by winners which has produced some 9 black-type performers including the very fast listed winning 2-y-o Daring Diva. Add this to being crowned the Leading British-based 1st season sire and it is no wonder many breeders have shown their faith in the regally bred son of Danehill.
