GLORIOUS START TO GOODWOOD FOR DANSILI
With a glut of potential top class runners ready to unleash
their ability during the glorious festival, Dansili's runners
kicked off to a flying start on the first day to take a
one-two in the Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie Memorial Stakes.
Results from Tuesday
Illustrious
Blue, having recently been allocated a new trainer in the form of
William Knight, showed that the new team had found the key to
improvment as he enhanced an already decent record at this track by
winning for the second time from just four runs. His connections
are not thought to have any immediate targets but feel he
is the type to keep on improving as a four-year-old and he'll
likely be targeted at some of the top mile handicaps next
year.
Press The Button followed in the winner's wake with an absolute
blinder in second having been head of affairs throughout. He
was having only his sixth career start and on this
evidence will not be long in finding a race.
Results from Wednesday
With a
performance reminiscent of his previous victory in the Group Two
July St at Newmarket last month, Strategic Prince dominated the
field in the Vintage St Gr.2 with an early command which left his
rivals powerless to keep hold of him at the line. Although a May
foal he is a mature horse who may still improve further with a
view to the Dewhurst Gr.1 in October and then perhaps the
Guineas.........
PREVIEW
The action on Friday comes courtesy of the efforts
from fillies Silver Touch and Cantabria who have already run
into places in Listed and Group Three company, but are now
offered their chance to convert these to a wining performance over
7f in the Oak Tree St Gr.3.
Codeword, trained by Mark Johnston and highly thought of at
home, sets out to defend his 100% win record with an entry in the
Richmond St Gr.2, another race run over his preferred 6f. His
trainer said of the horse "he has a great attitude when
galloping." This is step up from his previous run in a median
auction maiden stakes race at York but one that his trainer
feels he is ready for and it will be interesting to see how this
race pans out.
In the handicaps and nursery stakes you can expect to
see some good performances from the likes of Candle and Chervil who
have been placed in all their starts. Candle is known to "stay
well" in the words of trainer Henry Candy, and will need to for the
step up in trip to 11f in the Vodafone St on Friday. Chervil who
impressed when beating the big threat, Empress Olga a full sister
to speed queen Russian Rhythm, on her last run takes on Vodafone
Nursery St at her preferred distance of 6f, she is expected to
progress and this is definitely worth tracking.
STOP PRESS:
Over in Galway last night,
Dansili's representative Supposition breezed in with 7l to spare,
much to the delight of her trainer Dermot Weld, when winning
the Tote Exacta EBF Fillies Maiden St, 7f. The Racing Post
described her win as showing that 'she will have no trouble making
her mark at a higher level' and it is thought that her next start
will be stakes level as it is obvious that the filly has a lot of
potential.
