BREEDERS' CUP COUNTDOWN
"The Woodbine Mile on Sunday was the most
relevant of the week's Breeders' Cup preps, but it would still be
surprising if we saw a champion. The early pace in the turf event
was far too fast and resulted in a laborious 24.73sec final
quarter, a very different race to that likely in the Mile at
Churchill Downs on November 4.
For reference, DANSILI recorded an equivalent split of
21.80sec and was still defeated in the Breeders' Cup Mile of 2000
at Churchill Downs, a burst of acceleration under the conditions
that entitles Khalid Abdullah's colt to be regarded as the most
underrated miler of the last 20 years."
