PRINCESS VALERINA SCORES AT NEWMARKET
Princess Valerina landed a 7-4 touch for trainer Barry Hills in
the opening Monaveen EBF Maiden at Newmarket, making all for a
two-and-a-half-length triumph.
The BEAT HOLLOW
filly finished second on her debut at Windsor earlier in the month
and the experience clearly wasn't wasted on her.
She broke smartly from the stalls and took them along, with
Shmookh in close attendance.
As they approached the final furlong Princess Valerina, ridden
by Michael Hills, had established a commanding position and the
outcome was never in doubt.
She was eased down in the final strides with a short head
separating the runner-up Shmookh and the beaten favourite
Shevchenko.
Charlie Hills, son and assistant to Barry Hills, said: "She did
it well. She is a filly with good cruising speed and she travelled
nicely today.
"She should improve over the winter and will be a nice filly to
have in the yard next year. Seven furlongs won't be a problem and
we will look for some black type early on next
year."
