SPEEDY CAPTAIN GERRARD WINS AT CHESTER
By Colin Russell - Racing Post
Captain Gerrard (OASIS DREAM) from the Bryan Smart stable,
looked a juvenile with a bright future when getting off the mark at
the fourth attempt in the novice event at Chester.
One of only two maidens in a six-horse contest, he bounced out of
the stalls. Made all and drew right away in the straight to beat
Kersaint by five lengths.
His rider Richard Mullen said: ‘He’s all speed, and Bryan decided
on a change if tactics here because they’ve been hanging on to him
and he’s been a bit keen. He said to go on this time, and if
anything leads you they will be going too fast. He’s a nice
prospect, a real two-year-old as he’s all speed.’

Captain Gerrard (OASIS DREAM) has shown promise on all his
starts and improved on those efforts to win on his fourth. He is a
half-brother to the Hong Kong Queen Mother’s Memorial Cup winner
and Gr.2-placed Saturn (Marju) and the Listed Naas Sprint
Stakes-third Glocca
Morra (Catrail). Their dam Delphinus (Soviet Star) won once in
France and is a half-sister to a couple of winners. Their dam
Scimitarra (Kris) won the Listed Lupe Stakes and is a half-sister
to the Gr.1 (then) King’s Stand Stakes, Gr.1 Prix de l’Abbaye
winner and sire Double Form (Habitat), from the family of the Gr.1
winners Eva Luna and Sholokhov.
