CHAMPS ELYSEES CONTINUES THE WINNING TRADITION OF HIS
FAMILY
CHAMPS ELYSEES IS THE LATEST HASILI STAR
By Alastair Nicholson
Four-year-old Champs Elysees (Danehill) kept up the fine tradition
of his family and the magnificent record of his dam, Hasili
(Kahyasi), when he took the first Group victory of his career in
yesterday’s Gr.3 Prix d’Hedouville at Longchamp. The colt, trained
by Andre Fabre for Prince Khalid Abdulla, drew away from his rivals
in the closing stages of the 2400m contest to win by a length and a
half.
He is the sixth foal out of Listed winner Hasili, and a
full-brother to two Breeders’ Cup heroines in Banks Hill and
Intercontinental, the dual Gr.1 winner and young sire CACIQUE and to Hasili’s first
foal, the Gr.2 victor DANSILI, who is already the sire
of the outstanding Rail Link. Hasili has also produced a
fourth Gr.1 winner in Heat Haze (Green Desert).
Bred by Juddmonte Farms, Champs Elysees is the latest chapter in
the success story of the Stakes winning Kahyasi mare Hasili. Her
sixth foal, he is her sixth Graded/Group winner. Each of the sextet
is by a son of Danzig – CACIQUE, Banks Hill, Intercontinental
and DANSILI being by Danehill and the Gr.1
Beverly D Stakes and Gr.1 Matriarch Stakes ace Heat Haze by Green
Desert.
Banks Hill was the top-rated female in the world in 2001 after
her victories in the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf and the
Gr.1 Coronation Stakes and added the following year’s Gr.1 Prix
Jacques Le Marois, while Intercontinental regained the Gr.1
Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf title for the family in 2005.
Resident at Banstead Manor Stud, CACIQUE was successful in the
Gr.1 Manhattan Handicap and the Gr.1 Man O’War Stakes, while
the triple Pattern-winning miler DANSILI finished runner-up in the
Poule d’Essai des Poulains, the Prix de la Foret and the
Sussex Stakes, was unfortunate not to win the Breeders’ Cup
Mile and has made a hugely promising start to his stallion
career.
Hasili is a full-sister to the Listed victor Arrive and a
three-parts sister to another of Juddmonte Farms’ jewels, the
Stakes-placed Skiable. The dam of the disqualified Gr.1 Middle Park
Stakes first and Gr.2 Del Mar Handicap hero Three Valleys (Diesis),
Skiable is by Niniski, whose sire Nijinsky is the grandsire of
Kahyasi. The dam of Hasili and Skiable and the grandam of Stonewall
Farm’s North American Champion Turf Miler Leroidesanimaux (Candy
Stripes) and Gr.1 Grande Premio Sao Paulo victor Uapybo (Blush
Rambler), Kerali (High Line) is a winning daughter of the Gr.1
Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Sookera (Roberto) and is a half-sister
to two classy sprinting sons of Known Fact in the Gr.1 Nunthorpe
Stakes hero So Factual and Tara Stud’s Gr.3 July Stakes victor Bold
Fact.
Hasili has a filly foal by Storm Cat.
