YOUNG PRETENDER ENTERS CLASSIC PICTURE WITH GR. 3

Gosden’s Young Pretender enters Classic picture with Group 3
win

John Gosden added another potential Classic contender to an
already strong hand when Young Pretender earned quotes for 20-1 for
the 2,000 Guineas from Ladbrookes and William Hill with victory at
Longchamp yesterday.
Frankie Dettori brought the unbeaten son of OASIS
DREAM with a perfectly timed late run to win the group 3 Prix
La Rochette.
Dettori held the Princess Haya-owned colt up off a slow early
pace and, with fully two furlongs left to run, favourite Shediak
went to the head of affairs and looked certain to win.
However, Young Pretender reeled him in to score by half a
length, with Stern Opinion staying on at one pace to finish
third.
Gosden, who already has leading 2,000 hope Raven’s Pass and the
unbeaten filly Sense Of Joy, said from the Keeneland Sales: ‘I like
this colt very much and he will come back to Longchamp on Arc day
for the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.’
Dettori added ‘He will improve and has a bright future. The
penny didn’t drop until we passed the winning
post.’
