DARJINA OUTPACES FINSCEAL BEO

Storms were forecast for Sunday’s French Guineas and the heavens
did open but fortunately only in the form of a ten minute burst
prior to the two highlights of the card, which were run under a
clear sky. Six of the 13 were foreign raiders in the Poule d’Essai
des Pouliches, including the recent 1,000 Guineas winner Finsceal
Beo and her entourage of supporters who eagerly sought to score at
Longchamp before concluding their treble in Ireland. Their dreams
were shattered a head before the finishing post as the classy
French filly Darjina (ZAMINDAR) was first to the line,
securing her unbeaten record to the delight of Princess Zahra Aga
Khan, who owns and bred the filly as well as her dam Darinska
(Zilzal). Chantilly-based trainer Alain de Royer-Dupré was worried
by the rain prior to the race and, after his victory, reflected,
“She would have run better and won by a bigger margin had the
ground been firmer. The Prix de Diane has not been ruled out but
only if it is good ground.”
