QUEST RAIDER CAPTURES OAKS D’ITALIA
Taken from the EBN
The Michael Jarvis-trained Fashion Statement made her journey from
Newmarket to San Siro in Milan a successful one with a decisive
victory in yesterday’s Gr.2 Oaks d’Italia.
Ridden by Neil Callan in the colours of owner/breeder Peter
Savill, she thwarted Frankie Dettori’s attempt to ride a European
Classic winner for the third successive weekend, finishing strongly
to defeat his mount Moi Non Plus (Singspiel) by a length and a
three-quarters, with the German trained Scatina (Samum) a neck away
in third.
It was the sixth outing for Fashion Statement, who finished
third behind subsequent Oaks heroine Light Shift (Kingmambo) and
Oaks third All My Loving (Sadler’s Wells) in the Listed Cheshire
Oaks at Chester on her only previous start this season. She was
also Listed-placed last season, finishing third in Newmarket’s
Zetland Stakes after losing her maiden tag by eight lengths at Ayr
in heavy going.
Fashion Statement raced prominently, headed the pace-setter Cosi
with 300 metres to go and ran on strongly to become the
fifty-eighth Graded/Group winner from the 986 foals aged three and
over by Banstead Manor Stud’s Gr.1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and
Gr.1 Coronation Cup ace RAINBOW
QUEST.
Seventeen of these have triumphed at the highest level,
including the Classic winners Bright Generation, Knight’s Baroness,
Millenary, Nedawi, Quest For Fame, Raintrap, Spectrum and Sunshack
and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe victor Saumarez.
She is the second winner of this Classic for her sire,
RAINBOW
QUEST, who was successful in the 1993 edition
with Bright Generation. Fashion Statement’s next race is likely
to be closer to home, in the Gr.1 Yorkshire
Oaks.
