GUINEAS GAMBLE LIKELY TO DEVELOP
Guineas gamble likely to develop on Visit as Stoute treads a
familiar path
Racing Post – by Lee Mottershead and Bruce Jackson
Recent turf history tells us that when Sir Michael Stoute has a
runner in the Princess Margaret Stakes the filly in question wins.
At Ascot yesterday, history repeated itself.
Twice successful in the Independent Newspaper – sponsored
Princess Margaret in the 1980s, Stoute had saddled just two fillies
in the race in the past decade before yesterday’s first Sunday
renewal.
Subsequent Lowther Stakes winner Enthused won in 2000, followed
by future 1000 Guineas heroine Russian Rhythm in 2002.
In 2007 it was the turn of Khalid Abdullah’s Visit (OASIS
DREAM) to strike, and her trainer’s post-race reaction
suggested that even bigger things are expected of Ryan Moore’s
mount.
That said, bookmaker reaction was mixed. Ladbrookes installed
her into the Guineas at 14-1, but William Hill go 20-1.
It was, though, hard not to be taken with Visit, who followed
her debut Newmarket second with a most authoritative success,
cutting down Reel Gift with a sustained run that eventually carried
her to a length and a half triumph.
‘I was very impressed with her,’ said Stoute . ‘She’s in the
Cheveley Park and the Lowther, and we’ll see how she comes through
this, but she impressed me. I liked the way she did it.’
