ZAMINDAR - SIRE OF TOP RATED FILLIES
ZAMINDAR is the only sire with two performers heading
divisions of the 2007 WTRR. The speedy Zarkava is the Top Rated
European 2yo filly, and impressive Prix du Moulin victor Darjina
was today named as the Joint Leading 3yo+ Turf Filly.

ZARKAVA (119)
This lightly-raced daughter of ZAMINDAR
made a winning debut over a mile at Longchamp in September and the
decision to supplement her for the Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac was an
excellent one. Held up at the back of the field and stopped in her
run two furlongs out, she sprouted wings in the closing stages to
beat the well-regarded and hitherto unbeaten Conference Call by two
and a half lengths.
She is the second foal out of an unraced halfsister to Gr.3 winner
Zarkiya, from the Aga Khan family of French Classic winner Zainta,
descended from the only filly produced by the great Petite Etoile.
Her sire’s progeny excel at a mile, but this filly looks sure to
appreciate a little further and is a live Classic contender.

DARJINA (122)
Darjina, winner of her only start at two, only just got up to land
the Gr.3 Prix de la Grotte on her seasonal debut and made it three
out of three when showing an excellent turn of foot to deny
Finsceal Beo the middle leg of an unprecedented Guineas treble.
Although the ground had been on the soft side at Longchamp, she
failed to cope with the deteriorating conditions at Royal Ascot,
finishing third to runaway winner Indian Ink when third in the Gr.1
Coronation Stakes.
She returned to winning ways in the Gr.1 Prix d’Astarte, again on
soft, before trying her hand against the colts in the Gr.1 Prix du
Moulin. Showing her customary turn of foot in the closingstages,
she beat Ramonti, winner of his last two Gr.1 races, by two
lengths, but failed to act on the soft at Ascot next time,
finishing last to Ramonti. On her final start of the year, she ran
third in the Gr.1 Hong Kong Mile.
By ZAMINDAR, who had an excellent season with three
Gr.1-winning daughters, she is much the best recent member of a
good black-type family that includes Gr.1 Prix du Jockey-Club
victor Darsi.
