CLASSIC FILLY FINALLY GETS OFF THE MARK
Article taken from the EBN by Alan Porter
Tuscan Evening (2005 f by OASIS DREAM – The Faraway Tree by Suave Dancer) has had a rather strange career.
Despite having a more than respectable pedigree, she cost only 4,500gns at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. She didn’t break her maiden, until making her US debut on 22nd February, when winning a 6½ furlong contest by five lengths at Santa Anita.
However, despite having waited until the age of four to win her first race, she had some very high-class form in Europe. She was beaten just a head by Halfway To Heaven in the Gr.1 Irish 1,000 Guineas, only to be demoted to fourth, and her other efforts included a second to Myboycharlie in the Gr.3 Anglesey Stakes, a second in the Listed Saoire Stakes, and thirds in the Gr.2 Debutante Stakes, and Listed Isabel Morris Stakes.
Having finally recorded her first success, she retained the winning thread in her second US start on Saturday, scoring by 3¾ lengths in a 6½ furlong Santa Anita allowance event.
Tuscan Evening (OASIS DREAM) is the second winner for her dam, the Gr.3 (then) Park Hill Stakes second The Faraway Tree. That daughter of Suave Dancer is a half-sister to Gr.1 Prix d’Ispahan victor Sasuru; to Sally Rous, who took the Gr.2 Challenge Stakes and Gr.3 Jersey Stakes; and to Listed winners Sossus Vlei and Little Bean.
Bred in France by top US trainer, Bobby Frankel, Sognatore (2005 c by OASIS DREAM – Fantastic Filly by Myrakalu), has spent his entire career racing in the US. He was placed fourth in each of his three starts last year.
This year he began the campaign with two seconds in maidens at Santa Anita in January. On 27th February, third time proved to be the charm, and Sognatore got off the mark with a ¾ of a length tally in a 6½ furlong event at Santa Anita.
He is out of the Gr.3 Senorita Stakes, and Gr.3 Miesque Stakes victress Fantastic Filly. A French-foaled daughter of the Kaldoun horse, Myrakalu, she is halfsister to the dam of the Gr.1 Prix Jean Prat victor Stormy River.
