WEEKEND ROUND-UP

It was another successful blacktype weekend for OASIS DREAM with Midday putting up a brave performance to be narrowly denied in the Epsom Oaks and Tuscan Evening and Alta Fedelta both winning Listed races.

Midday came agonisingly close to emulating her Aunt, Reams Of Verse’s victory in the Epsom classic, but she lost absolutely nothing in defeat and should continue to make her mark at Gr.1 level.

OASIS DREAM did have a winner at Epsom on Friday – Cloudy Start winning the competitive 7f handicap and putting himself in line for a possible visit to Royal Ascot.

Tuscan Evening won her first Stakes event on Saturday night, having previously finished in the frame in six blacktype races, when running out a smooth winner of the Redondo Beach Stakes at Hollywood Park. The filly has now won four out of her five US starts and is reportedly to be aimed at the Gr.2 Royal Heroine Stakes at Hollywood Park next month.

Alta Fedelta is also a prolific filly, having won three of her six career starts. Two of these wins have been in Listed races, the latest coming in the Premio Nogara at Milan. Alta Fedelta’s dam Infiel is currently in foal to BEAT HOLLOW.

DANSILI was represented by his 55th black type performer (from crops conceived at no more that £12,500) when Handsome Maestro was beaten a short neck into second in the Gr.3 Prix Paul de Moussac at Chantilly, only being caught in the final strides. This highly-rated colt should be able to open his account in Pattern races soon.

The result of the Derby had great significance for DANSILI, as his 2009 book includes half-sisters to the winner and the third.  All Too Beautiful, herself an Oaks runner up, is a half-sister to Sea The Stars, while Cheveley Park Stakes winner and record-priced broodmare Magical Romance, is a half-sister to Masterofthehorse. Magical Romance also has a DANSILI yearling colt.

Mention must be made of RAINBOW QUEST’S feat in being broodmare sire of the winner and the third in the Gr.1 Coronation Cup, namely Ask and Look Here.

He has now been responsible, as broodmare sire, for two Derby winners, an Oaks winner and a Coronation Cup winner.

RAINBOW QUEST also excelled at Epsom as a racehorse, winning the Coronation Cup, and as a sire where he got a Derby winner (Quest For Fame) and a Coronation Cup winner (Sunshack).
